Rajah & Tann wins Best Asian Law Firm at International Legal Alliance Summit

Rajah & Tann has been recognised as the Best Asian Law Firm by the International Legal Alliance Summit (ILAS), a prestigious international event that recognises top law firms from around the world, and brings together more than 500 leading partners, general counsels and IP directors from over 40 countries.

The Singapore law firm, the largest in Southeast Asia, received the award at the ILAS’ premier gala dinner and awards ceremony in New York this morning.

The ILAS Awards have been running for seven years in the United States but the Best Asian Law Firm award was introduced only in 2013. This recognition is a first for a Singapore law firm.

The nomination list for this award included top law firms from South East Asia as well as Korea and Japan.

The ILAS Awards recognise excellent performance and unrivalled expertise in leading legal firms through a rigorous selection process. About 200 law firms are selected according to a range of studies, surveys and rankings and 25 specialized jury panels elect the winner of each of the 25 categories. Jury members are made up of more than 100 General Counsels of Fortune 500 companies or equivalent.

Rajah & Tann’s Managing Partner, Mr Lee Eng Beng S.C., said: “We are very grateful for this recognition of our efforts in building a strong presence within South East Asia. Our regional capabilities are growing from strength to strength and our partners in the region are well-positioned to support the diverse needs of our clients in this region.”

Rajah & Tann is the only regional law firm with physical presence and full-service capabilities in eight out of the 10 ASEAN countries. It has been expanding its regional network in the last five years and now services regional clients from offices in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.

Last year, its Malaysia associate, Christopher & Lee Ong, emerged from a merger involving three law firms with full local law capability to undertake practically all areas of law in Malaysia. In Indonesia, Rajah & Tann has a strategic tie-up with Assegaf Hamzah, Indonesia’s third largest law firm.

In Myanmar and Cambodia, Rajah & Tann operates through Rajah & Tann NK Legal and R&T Sok & Heng Law Office respectively.

The group’s regional network also includes offices in China and Lao PDR, as well as regional desks focusing on Japan and South Asia.
