Rajah & Tann moves to Marina One office

Rajah & Tann Singapore announced today that it has begun operations from its new office at Marina One in the Marina South financial district. The move is part of the firm’s transformation strategy which includes investments in digital tools and capabilities, creating a new business in legal technology, and the redesign of its work space.

The 70,000 square feet office, over two floors at Marina One, will house about 80% of the firm’s 1,000 employees including fee earners and support staff who used to be spread out over 11 floors at MYP Centre in Raffles Place.

Mr Patrick Ang, Managing Partner of Rajah & Tann Singapore, said: “We are delighted to relocate to our new office at Marina One. The move heralds a new era of transformation for the firm. The design of our physical space has been conceptualised to change the way we work; promoting more integration and enhancing collaboration. The move has also given us the opportunity to significantly invest in technology to position ourselves for a digital future.

“Rajah & Tann has been at the vanguard of digital transformation in an industry that has not always been keen to embrace change. We were one of the first, if not the first, to set up a legal tech subsidiary to help clients deploy advanced technologies to do more with less, and also to future-proof our practice throughout the region.”

The Marina One office utilises technologies that minimise paper usage, improve business processes and workflow efficiencies. The physical space is configured for easier interaction and closer engagement among the lawyers. For example, partners no longer work in their enclosed rooms but in semi-open modular pods. Free and ready access is available to all lawyers to shared resources and common spaces, including large conference rooms and 45 collaboration rooms for smaller group meetings. In an era of integrated legal services, this design concept seeks to encourage more interaction, a flatter organisation, and greater optimisation in planning and organising resources.

The new office features state-of-the-art technologies such as smart digital blackboards in every meeting room for lawyers to instantly sync presentations to the cloud, enhanced video conferencing facilities and generally to operate in a wireless, connected environment.

These technologies support the mobility of lawyers who practise in Southeast Asia’s largest legal network and who are encouraged to telecommute one day each month.

To promote networking across the firm, the Marina One office also features a large courtyard which can accommodate up to 210 people. Communal events and gatherings will be regularly organised, and employees are given monthly credits through an app, which they can use to pay for food and beverages at the courtyard.

Mr Ang added: “With the new office, we now have the supporting infrastructure and hardware to better optimise our resources, build strong relationships within the firm and with our clients, and be more agile and efficient in the way we work.”

About 200 other employees from centralised and corporate services, the firm’s legal tech subsidiary Rajah & Tann Technologies (R&T Tech), and its specialised practice for SMEs, Rajah & Tann Legal Basix, will be based in another new office at 120 Robinson Road. R&T Tech also has a second office at DUO Tower in Bugis.
