Rajah & Tann Technologies, Singapore Institute Of Management partner Jyvaskyla Technology Group and Finnish university JAMK University of Applied Sciences to raise cybersecurity capabilities in Singapore

At a time of heightened global concern over cybersecurity, Rajah & Tann Technologies (RTT) and the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) have inked a proposed collaboration with leading Finnish institutions, JAMK University of Applied Sciences (JAMK), and Jyvaskyla Technology Group (JTG – JAMK’s sole and exclusive Singapore-based partner), to help build capacities and capabilities for addressing cybersecurity risks in Singapore.

Under the MOU signed today, the partners will explore both the provision of sophisticated cybersecurity simulation services to businesses and companies as well as the offering of higher education programmes and training to boost the knowledge and competencies of cybersecurity professionals. The provision of cyber exercises, simulation and/or training services or products will be done through the setting up of a state-of-the-art cyber range to meet emerging and increasing national and transnational cybersecurity needs of the private and public sectors. SIM, Singapore’s leading institution in private education and executive training, will also explore introducing degree programmes and professional training to elevate the standard of cybersecurity expertise.

The Finnish university JAMK besides being known for its state-of-the-art academic programmes in the field, also operates Finland’s National Cyber Range through its cybersecurity research, development, and training center, JYVSECTEC - Jyväskylä Security Technology. It is well known for its cyber exercises which help organisations to integrate people, processes and technology to protect their critical information, services and assets. These exercises take place in JAMK’s Realistic Global Cyber Environment (RGCE), a next-generation, hyper-realistic live cyber range environment where cyberattacks are simulated.

The collaboration comes in the wake of several high-profile cyber-attacks in Singapore, highlighting the need for organisations to remain vigilant and strengthen their cybersecurity defences to combat increasingly targeted and sophisticated threats.

Her Excellency Katri Kulmuni, Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Finland, was the Guest-of-Honour at the MOU signing. The event was also attended by His Excellency Antti Vanska, Ambassador of Finland to Singapore, and representatives from the Embassy of Finland.

Mr Patrick Ang, Managing Partner of Rajah & Tann Singapore, said: “We are excited to be working with some of the leading academic and technology organisations in the world to provide solutions that address real-world needs of our clients.

“We are confident that the expertise and experience that our Finnish partners have built up over the years will help Rajah & Tann to be at the cutting edge of technology for cybersecurity simulation training and education.”

Mr Steve Tan, Director at RTT, said: “This proposed partnership will enhance our suite of offerings to clients who are concerned about mitigating cybersecurity risks and minimising disruptions to their business. Cybersecurity simulation exercises and training are a much needed service for organisations operating in a digital economy while navigating compliance with data protection and cybersecurity laws.”

Commenting on the collaboration, Mr Seah Chin Siong, SIM’s President and Chief Executive Officer, said, “The proposed collaboration is significant in that it offers a holistic approach to addressing increasingly sophisticated cyber security threats. Besides the technical and practical aspects of helping companies bolster their security, it is critical that we build and maintain a constant pipeline of cybersecurity talent through education and training. Finland is a reputed pioneer in both the education and innovation of smart technologies, particularly in information and cyber security. We are very proud to be partnering its leading institutions, JAMK and JTG in this important initiative.”
