Rajah & Tann Singapore wins Most Innovative Law Firm in ASEAN for the year at FT Awards

Rajah & Tann Singapore has won the Most Innovative Law Firm in ASEAN award for the year at the 2016 FT Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers Awards. It beat over 40 final shortlisted firms in one or more award categories to emerge the winner in the coveted category. The award was announced yesterday evening at a ceremony in Hong Kong.

The 2016 FT Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers Awards, now in its third year, is a ranking and awards for lawyers based in the region. It celebrates the most innovative legal work in the region from both international and Asia-Pacific headquartered law firms*.

Managing Partner Lee Eng Beng, SC, said: “It is a great honour for Rajah & Tann Singapore to receive this award. I would like to express my thanks and gratitude to my partners and colleagues who have worked hard for this, and to our clients for their support and confidence in us.

“Our association with other leading local law firms in South East Asia through our Rajah & Tann Asia network is an example of how we are constantly trying to innovate, present a better commercial proposition to clients, and stay ahead of the competition.”

At the event was newly appointed Deputy Managing Partner, Rebecca Chew. She added: “ASEAN is a key region for the group and with the ASEAN Economic Community becoming a reality, our partners understand they have to adopt a changed mind set, move out of their comfort zone and be prepared to navigate the legal minefield that this region poses.”

Last year, Rajah & Tann Singapore clinched Chambers & Partners’ top national law firm award for Singapore, the second time since 2013.

Rajah & Tann’s partners were also recognised by New York-based ALM, publisher of The Asian Lawyer, The American Lawyer, and Corporate Counsel, as the Emerging Market Law Firm Leader of the Year and Maritime Lawyer of the Year.

The firm also bagged Singapore’s Law Firm of the Year at the Who’s Who Legal Awards 2015. Who's Who Legal is published by Law Business Research Limited, an independent London-based publishing group, which provides research, analysis and reports on the international legal services marketplace.

Rajah & Tann is one of the largest full-service law firms in Singapore and South East Asia, with market leading practices in dispute resolution, international arbitration, shipping, insolvency, restructuring, corporate & commercial, amongst others. It is one of the region’s most highly regarded law firms, with international legal journals and surveys consistently rating the firm and several of its lawyers as among the best in their areas of practice.

* Firms are assessed through telephone interviews, client references and independent reviews by market experts for work they have done to transform the legal market. In addition, the research covers in-house legal teams that are adding the most value to business and the most innovative individuals working in the Asia-Pacific region.

This year’s awards covers law firms operating in Australia, China and Hong Kong, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the members of ASEAN: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Over 460 individual submissions from 72 law firms and 82 in-house legal teams were received. FT’s research partner, RSG Consulting conducts hundreds of client, expert and lawyer interviews to assess and rank these submissions.

The ceremony was organised by the Financial Times and its partners held at the Asia Society Hong Kong Centre. It attracted Asia Pacific’s most influential lawyers, in-house counsel and CEOs.
