LearningBytes 2026: Inside Job: A Live Workplace Data Breach Simulation Walkthrough

On 6 May 2026, the Employment Practice and the Technology, Media & Telecommunications Practice jointly hosted this month’s LearningBytes seminar series titled “Inside Job: A Live Workplace Data Breach Simulation Walkthrough”. The session brought together perspectives from both the practices to guide participants through a realistic insider data breach scenario involving the unauthorised downloading and transfer of confidential and personal data.

Designed as a live simulation, the session placed participants in the role of decision-makers and invited them to work through key issues commonly faced by organisations in practice, including:

  • the appropriate immediate response where employee misconduct is suspected;
  • steps to contain a data breach while preserving forensic evidence;
  • structuring and commencing a legally defensible investigation;
  • managing non-cooperation during an investigation, including employee absence and refusal to participate;
  • mitigating the exfiltration of sensitive data, including employee payroll and client information; and
  • navigating regulatory and stakeholder notification obligations.

The speakers were Partners Jonathan Yuen (Head, Employment), Rajesh Sreenivasan (Head, Technology, Media & Telecommunications), Doreen Chia and Justin Lee.
