If you’re not certain of your preferred specialist area at this stage, don’t worry, you won’t be boxed in. In addition to training in your chosen primary practice area, you will also be given exposure in at least one other area. If you have no preference at all, we assess your personality and work with you to identify an area of practice you may be suited to.
And if, after starting in one practice area, you realise that it is not the right kind of work for you, we’ll do our best within the bounds of the Firm’s needs to accommodate a switch.
There are three broad aspects to your training at Rajah & Tann:
With your Supervising Solicitor
He or she, a highly experienced partner and mentor, will take charge of your training, supervising and guiding you, providing feedback on your performance, and ensuring that you are achieving all your learning objectives.
With your Practice Group
You’ll have the opportunity to work with the other partners and lawyers within the group, who may supervise your work and critique it as part of your training.

Applying for a Training Contract
TC 2027 will give our trainees a meaningful opportunity to train in more than one practice area, with a focus on your allocated major seat.

PARTNER-LEVEL LAWYER IN CAPITAL MARKETS / MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS PRACTICE TO PROVIDE TRANSACTION-SUPPORT SERVICES [CLO – KL]
What are we looking for?
We are looking to hire a Partner-level lawyer to join our Capital Markets / Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. The position will be located within our Malaysian-network firm Christopher & Lee Ong in Kuala Lumpur.
The ideal candidate will have worked in a well-established law firm focusing on a range of corporate transactions, including public and private mergers & acquisitions, and private equity investments.
The Role Will Involve
- Providing legal support on a broad range of transactions including placements; rights issues; bonus issues and other secondary issues, issues of bonds, continuing listing requirements; corporate disclosure and corporate governance, capital and corporate restructuring, and employee share schemes.
- Providing support on the full spectrum of legal issues involving the following transactions in Singapore as well as the wider ASEAN region, such as:
- Acquisitions and divestments of companies (both public and private), businesses and assets
- Takeovers (hostile, contested and uncontested) of Singapore listed companies
- Reverse takeovers (RTOs)
- Mergers, amalgamations and schemes of arrangements
- Delistings, privatisations, de-mergers and corporate restructurings

SENIOR ASSOCIATE / JUNIOR PARTNER IN COMPETITION & ANTITRUST AND TRADE PRACTICE
We are looking to hire a Senior Associate / Junior Partner to join our Competition & Antitrust and Trade Practice in our Singapore office.
The ideal candidate will have worked in a well-established law firm focusing on competition and trade practice. We will consider any candidate who has a good analytical mind and can write succinctly and effectively. You will need to have an eye for details.
You will work on all types of competition and trade related matters, with a huge potential to grow. Candidates who are independent thinking, have a love for the law and are resolute will enjoy the ride. This is a place where we work strongly as a team and we will help you grow.
The Role Will Involve
- All aspects of competition law, from advisory and compliance to disputes and resolution.
- Reviewing the effects of structural changes in businesses to assess the impact on competition in the relevant industries and advising clients whether merger notifications are necessary.
- Defending allegations of infringements of competition law and help businesses to define and coordinate strategy in cases involving competition authorities from multiple jurisdictions.
- Assisting and advising on appropriate leniency applications, where necessary.

LEGAL ASSOCIATE IN SHIPPING & INTERNATIONAL TRADE
About the Practice
You will be joining a Tier One practice which is part of a globally-ranked maritime practice of Rajah & Tann Asia. Our team thrives on a strong goals-oriented and mentoring culture. You will be trained with a clear set of “milestones” to best aid your career progression. The team you will be joining will expose you to top-tier maritime casualty “wet” work as well as cross-border maritime and trading disputes, with a strong emphasis on international arbitration and regional work. You will have opportunities for overseas secondments and business travel on casework. You will receive “first in class” in-house and external training that is professionally administered by the Rajah & Tann Asia Academy, and have access to our legal knowhow and resources regionally from 10 countries. You will be well-remunerated and valued for your contributions as a member of the team.
Requirements
- Singapore qualified lawyer with at least 2 to 4 years post-qualification experience.
- Experience in shipping and/or trading or international/commercial arbitration disputes work in top tier firms.
- Sound foundation in legal knowledge and skills with a good class of LLB or JD Honours.
- Prior exposure to the study of maritime law will be an advantage.
LEGAL ASSOCIATE IN COMMERCIAL LITIGATION PRACTICE
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Drafting and reviewing legal documents
- Management of legal files to deliver quality work within stipulated deadlines
- Active coordination and interface with clients to ensure smooth workflow and that clients are promptly updated
- Providing assistance to senior lawyers on matters arising in the course of day-to-day work
- Dealing with any other related tasks as assigned from time to time

The Restructuring & Insolvency (“R&I“) practice in Rajah & Tann Singapore has consistently been ranked as a market leading and tier 1 practice in Singapore and beyond. As the only Asian law firm ranked amongst the top 20 R&I practices in the world by the Global Restructuring Review, we have been involved in virtually every major restructuring and insolvency matter in Singapore.
We are looking to bolster our R&I practice in Singapore with dynamic, passionate and collaborative lawyers. The role will involve your working primarily on various aspects of an R&I practice, including the different R&I regimes, both domestic and cross-border.

The application window for internships with us in 2024 opens at 9.00am SGT on 18 December 2023 and closes on 31 January 2024.
Internships are a great opportunity for you to get to know us and see first-hand what the life of a practising lawyer is like. Our programme is designed to take you on a tour of the firm and provide a platform to participate in the culture that defines us Rajah & Tann. Interns can expect to work alongside our lawyers as they attend court proceedings and meetings, be involved in transactions and assist in tasks such as research and the preparation of legal documents.
Our programme is also a means for us to get to know each other and understand your perspectives and aspirations. If you are considering a permanent position with us, our lawyers are always on the lookout for aspirants who would make solid additions to our teams.
We hope to achieve a lot during your time with us and each placement will run for a period of four weeks.
For 2024, our internship programmes will be conducted from:

It’s NOT All Work and No Play
We believe in working and playing hard and seek to encourage a balanced lifestyle. That is why we were the first major law firm to introduce a flexible dress code. It is also why we were the first firm to have a dedicated in-house café and lounge area, more affectionately known to our lawyers and staff as The Courtyard.
The typical day at Rajah & Tann starts with breakfast served at The Courtyard. Everyone, from the Managing Partner to our newest trainee, can feel at home at The Courtyard, sipping their morning cuppa or tucking into their morning sustenance.
At lunch or in the evenings after work, those of us with energy to spare battle it out on the foosball table. It’s a great way to bond or, simply to blow off some steam after a hard day’s work.
Because we understand the importance of building strong interpersonal relationships, we organise social activities for our trainees and lawyers in informal settings. It is one of our traditions that at such functions, roles are reversed occasionally and trainees become the organisers for some of our annual bashes. Again, we believe that this is a great way for our trainees to feel at home with us and vice versa.
