Impact of Middle East Crisis: Legal and Business Perspectives

On 10 April 2026, Rajah & Tann Singapore, in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates (“UAE“) Singapore Business Council (“UAESBC“) hosted a seminar titled “Impact of Middle East Crisis: Legal and Business Perspectives”.

Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to reshape global risk and market conditions. At the seminar, policymakers, industry leaders and legal practitioners examined these developments and their impacts on shipping routes, energy markets, and contractual risk allocation. They also considered legal perspectives on force majeure and evolving contract responses. A panel discussion also explored the broader commercial, operational and strategic consequences for businesses with exposure to the region.

The speakers were Partners Leong Kah Wah (Head, Shipping & International Trade), Alroy Chan (Deputy Head, Corporate Commercial), and V Bala. The other speakers/panellists were Dr Clemens Chay, Senior Fellow for Geopolitics, Observer Research Foundation Middle East (ORF ME), Dr Brian Shegar, Emeritus Chairman & Senior Advisor, UAESBC, Dino Civitarese, Vice President Asia Pacific – Carrier & Wholesale Services, e& (Etisalata), and Paul Bradshaw, Director – International Supply & Trading, Emirate National Oil Company (ENOC).

H.E. Jamal Alsuwaidi, UAE Ambassador to Singapore and UAESBC Patron, delivered the Opening Remarks, while Managing Partner Ng Kim Beng delivered the closing remarks.
