Jonathan is a Partner of Rajah & Tann Singapore’s Corporate Commercial and Employment Practices.

In his employment practice, Jonathan represents and advises a wide range of employers, from start-ups to multinational corporations and financial institutions, on a broad spectrum of matters spanning all stages of the employment lifecycle, ranging from pre-employment issues to the cessation of employment. Jonathan also regularly advises on employment and immigration law issues in the context of corporate transactions and restructurings.

In 2023, Jonathan was one of forty employment law specialists worldwide who were recognised by the International Employment Lawyer as thought leaders who will be at the forefront of tomorrow’s employment law challenges and who are likely to shape the future of employment law.

Notable Cases & Transactions
  • Advised VinFast Auto Ltd on various employment law matters in connection with its business combination with Black Spade Acquisition Co., a special purpose acquisition company which valued VinFast Auto Ltd. at approximately US$23 billion.
  • Advised the largest mixed martial arts promotion company in Asia on its retrenchment exercise.
  • Advised one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies on employee integration issues following its merger with an agrochemical company.
  • Advised the judicial managers of one of Asia’s largest oil trading firms on the employment law issues arising from the sale of the firm’s business assets as part of the judicial management process.
  • Advised the world’s largest professional networking company on their employment law and immigration law issues.
  • Advised multi-national companies in successfully terminating the employment of their senior management employees, and negotiated and secured settlement agreements with those employees to mitigate litigation risk.
  • Advised one of the biggest ride-hailing companies in South-East Asia in relation to its reorganisation, addressing specific issues relating to reduction in force and mass dismissals.
  • Advised the world’s largest provider of search and advertising services on the internet in relation to its reorganisation, addressing specific issues relating to reduction in force and mass dismissals.
